Anti-Aging Tropical Vegan Turmeric Smoothie

Turmeric maca root smoothie

I’m eating far too many bagels these days and I really needed to come up with something different for breakfast.  At the same time, I want to start my day with something healthy that I can feel good about.  The benefits of turmeric in skin care  are scientifically proven and this is an herb I want to incorporate into my everyday diet.  So, instead of the bagels, I’m trying some new smoothies and I want to a vegan tropic turmeric smoothie that is delicious!

Why Tumeric?

One ounce of turmeric gives you 26% of your daily requirement of manganese and 16% of your daily requirement of iron.  The herb is also a great source of fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, magnesium, and vitamin C.  Turmeric is known to improve your body’s ability to digest fats.  It reduces gas and bloating as well.   It is a very powerful antioxidant and anti- inflammatory.  The curcuminoid pigments in turmeric stimulate the body’s synthesis of antioxidants.  This protects cells through out the body, including skin from free radical and this can slow down the forming of fine lines and wrinkles.  There are so many benefits to consuming turmeric, so I’m swapping out the bagels and changing it up!

An extra bonus in this one, maca root

For a bigger benefit boost, I also incorporated maca root powder in this recipe.  The maca root is another superfood that is wonderful to incorporate into your daily diet.  The benefits of maca root include increasing libido, regulating hormones, increasing energy, and relieving menstrual cramps.  (Who doesn’t want these benefits?)

Tropical Tumeric and Maca Root Breakfast Smoothie
Serves: 2

Here is a recipe I compiled after trying many different published turmeric recipes that missed the mark here and there.  I’ve fine tuned this recipe that incorporates all the healthy options plus sweetness  that I love so much, without any added sugar.

Tropical breakfast smoothie turmeric maca root

  • 2  bananas (cut into small chunks and freeze in advance)
  • 2 cups pineapple (frozen pineapple chunks)
  • 2 cups organic coconut milk
  • 2 teaspoons organic ground turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons organic maca root powder (Try this one)
  • 1 piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped (1 inch piece)
  • 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 2 teaspoons grated coconut

This is so simple!  Toss everything into the blender and blend the ingredients until the are smooth.  Garnish the smoothie with chia seeds and grated coconut.  If you want a more frozen consistency, you can add some ice when blending.

Some variations to try that are delicious with the turmeric are mango.  You can substitute half the pineapple for mango.  You can also substitute half the coconut milk for orange juice.

I hope you enjoy!  XOX

  1. Looks yummy! I had no idea turmeric was so good for health. Will try the recipe, cause I love all of the ingredients, except maca root (it is the only superfood I can´t eat – just don´t like the taste and it´s so sad cause it´s exactly what I need) will replace it with Baobab Powder, which I’m loving!

    Have a great week!

    1. OH TURMERIC IS AMAZING! And it’s just incredible for the skin! I haven’t tried Baobab Powder, what is the taste like? Where do you get yours? xoxo

  2. That looks super delicious. I use turmeric for cooking from time to time but never in a smoothie. Such a great idea. Thanks for sharing the recipe. x

    1. You can leave the Maca Root out if that’s not something you want but it’s a really delicious recipe that is super healthy! You can also drop the chia seeds to cut down on the calories a little bit. If you make it or find another good variation, definitely let me know as I’m always whipping them up! XO
