I have heard people rave about the Tula Skin Care line for quite some time! So, I had to see for myself what Tula Skin Care was all about! What makes this skin care line different than all the others on the market? The first thing I noticed is their packaging is positively stunning. A gorgeous shade of blue with brushed silver accents and sleek product labels. The packaging will definitely catch your eye. But Tula Skin Care is more than just pretty bottles and containers. This is a unique and innovative line of skin care that is made with Probiotics. According to the Academy of Dermatology, Probiotics are one of the new beauty breakthroughs shown to help with clearer skin, decreased skin sensitivity, redness, and inflammation. The founder, Dr. Roshini Raj, is a board certified gastroenterologist and a Harvard graduate. Combine the beauty, innovation, and intriguing founder of this line, and it has definitely caught my interest and I can understand why others are intrigued as well.
What are probiotics?
Probiotics are “good” organisms (bacteria or yeasts) that are beneficial to the human body. Our bodies contain 300 to 500 different strains of bacteria and these make up 95% of the total cells in our body. You might think the Tula Skin Care products need to be refrigerated like other Probiotics you are accustomed to purchasing but that’s not the case. While the bacteria is live when the products are being formulated, by the time the product is ready for sale, the Probiotics have been broken down to release their useful elements and aren’t living bacteria anymore. Probiotic technology has been used in gastroenterology for many years and many people purchase Probiotics to ensure their bodies remain in an optimal bacterial balance.
What about probiotics in skin care?
This is where the innovation comes in and things are changing up! Recent studies show that Probiotics have other health-promoting effects beyond gut well-being, including skin health benefits. Probiotics are actually a very active area of research in the dermatology world and the American Academy of Dermatology has acknowledged the use of Probiotics for topical application. When applied topically, Probiotics strengthen the skin’s natural barrier function and protect it from environmental damage. Probiotics secrete nutritive elements to the skin, helping to stabilize the skin’s immune system. This enhances the skin’s repair activity and counteracts degeneration of collagen and elastin, resulting in increased moisture and skin suppleness. Studies also show that Probiotics may help with skin conditions such as acne and rosacea (thanks to their ability to decrease skin redness and calm inflammation). There is quite a long list of benefits that come with Probiotics and skin care.
Tula Skin Care has included a lot of information on their website about the advanced research that is going on in this space and I’d encourage you to take a look at the findings. The Tula delivery system to the skin and their technology is fascinating and there’s much more to learn more about the technology behind these products.
Tula Skin Care – The product line
Tula has a comprehensive product line including serums, masks, cleanser, eye cream, neck cream, detox products for the skin, travel kits, and much more. It’s hard to decide where to start when evaluating their line. Everything looks good and the benefits of the various products sound amazing so you might have a hard time choosing one or two. I certainly did! I decided to try the Tula Skin Care Day and Night Cream and the Exfoliating Treatment Mask. My next purchase without a doubt will be the Illuminating Face Serum and the Neck Cream which I thought would be perfect as I wrap up with my final treatments of Kybella. I’d like something to keep my beautiful new chin and neck looking smooth and firm.
All Tula’s products are 100% cruelty free. None of their products contain parabens, mineral oil, petrolatum, phthalates, or propylene Glycol. All products are also gluten free.
Tula Skin Care – Hydrating Day and Night Cream
This rich moisturizing cream has earned 5 stars on the Tula website and customers are thrilled with the results they are achieving with the product. Therefore, this was an easy pick for me. The Hydrating Day and Night Cream has both reparative and preventative anti-aging properties and helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Customers also observed more supple and youthful looking skin. It’s a gentle moisturizer that is recommended for daily use and all skin types.
One of the reasons I’d like the Illuminating Face Serum in my collection is because it is a wonderful primer for this face cream and I’m ready to take the product to the next step. All Tula’s products utilize the Probiotic technology and this moisturizer also contains plant-derived Squalene. If you’ve never used Squalene, it’s amazing! I’ve used it in a pure oil form and I love it! I’m thrilled the Face Serum is formulated with this incredible hydrator. Additional plant extracts add more dimension to the Day and Night Hydration Cream but the bottom line is you will notice a difference after just a few uses.
If you have oily skin, you may feel this product is too heavy as a day time moisturizer and that is something you will need to explore on your own. For me, it works quite well as both a day and night moisturizer. I also live in the Sonoran Desert with very dry air. This moisturizer is something you will feel on your skin until it’s fully absorbed. Part of it is what you are accustomed to using and the other is what you want to get out of a product. If you want deep hydration and moisture, richer products and natural oils are going to achieve that more effectively than ultra light moisturizers.
These things are hard to advise on. My recommendation is to use the product for 2 weeks and see how you like it. Adjust the amount you apply, whether you use it day and night, and how your skin looks and feels after 7 days and 14 days. Then make a final decision. Below are the results from women who used the product and what their experience was. This is why I think you should experiment for about 2 weeks.
- After 14 days of use, 95.7% of participants agreed their skin appeared firmer
- After 28 days of use, 95.7% of participants agreed their lines and wrinkles appeared noticeably reduced
- After 7 days of use, 100% of participants agreed they noticed a change in their skin
- After 7 days of use , 100% of participants agreed the texture of their skin was more refined and their skin hydrated, soft and supple
- After 14 days of use, 100% of participants agreed they noticed an improvement in the radiance of their skin
- After 7 days of use, 100% of participants agreed they would recommend this product to a friend
Tula Skin Care – Exfoliating Treatment Mask
I am a huge mask lover. I would say every Sunday I use a facial mask. I find them relaxing and I enjoy many different types. Therefore, I couldn’t resist picking up the Tula Exfoliating Treatment Mask. Plus this one is talked about all the time! Inside the elegant blue glass jar is a light blue clay mask with small exfoliating beads. Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?
Clay masks are known for mattifying properties and sometimes people will report their skin feels dry and tight after using a clay based mask. I didn’t find this mask to be drying at all and it’s gentle with the exfoliation. The mask is worn for 5 – 10 minutes. The exfoliation is both physical and chemical as the product contains lactic acid. It’s also formulated with Vitamin E, volcanic sand, soybean oil and Bentonite Clay. This mask leaves your skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and polished. You may even notice a glow. It produces a beautiful result using natural and gentle ingredients. Tula indicates this product is safe to use 2 -3 times per week.
I enjoy clay masks and this one was particularly soothing and comfortable to wear. After using the mask, my skin was definitely smooth and make up goes applies beautifully. This is another product that has earned a solid 5 star rating on Tula’s website.
Both the mask and the day cream are approximately $50 which is reasonable for quality skin care. That seems to fall right in the midrange of what most products cost so I would consider Tula a good value in addition to effective and innovative products. If you really struggle with making a product choice, consider their Discovery Kit for $52 which gives you an overall product value of $104 and a good selection of products: Purifying Face Cleanser, Hydrating Day and Night Cream, Illuminating Face Serum, and Revitalizing Eye Cream. There is also a travel kit available so there are some good options if you can’t decide on just one product.
And what if you just don’t like the Tula Skin Care products?
Tula understands skin care is very personal and I believe that’s why they offer a 30 day money back guarantee. That’s enough time for you to experience the products and try different combinations to see what works best for you. If you don’t like it, then you send it back to Tula and they will refund your money. The only thing you lose is a few dollars to ship the product back.
I might be a little late to the game as these products have been on the market a while and talked about for nearly a year now. I’m just trying them. But a girl’s got to start somewhere! I’m busy researching a lot of different products to share with you and hopefully answering questions that you may have.
I hope you found this information helpful and I would love to hear your thoughts on Tula Skin Care products. Especially other products that I haven’t tried yet and maybe you have? Don’t be shy, say hello in the comments and ask me anything!
