Tom’s of Maine Made to Matter

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tom’s of Maine. All opinions are 100% mine.

Earth Day herb garden

Earth Day is April 22nd and people all over the world will come together and demonstrate their support for environmental protection.  This is a day that represents peace, human ecology, and protection of our natural resources.  This Earth Day, I want to take a moment to recognize Tom’s of Maine and their contributions over the years to protecting the health of people, giving back, and making a difference.  Tom’s of Maine is an organization that consistently does so much for people and the environment.

Did you know the first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970?  That’s the same year that Tom and Kate Chappell moved to Maine and launched their company, Tom’s of Maine.  They promised to deliver products that would not harm the environment.  Products that were made to matter!  In the mid 70s they began producing the first natural care toothpaste and deodorant.  Today, over 45 years later, the company has an entire line of effective products that are responsibly manufactured.  Tom and Kate don’t own the company anymore, they moved on in 2006, and Colgate-Palmolive Company now maintains the traditions and the philosophy behind Tom’s of Maine.  The company remains to be a transparent and ethical and I have trusted them for many years.

Target’s Made to Matter Campaign

Made to Matter Target

Target has launched a campaign, Made to Matter, where they hand picked brands that are innovative making products that matter.   Makes sense, right? Tom’s of Maine was handpicked by Target as member of the Made to Matter team.    No surprises there.  They have earned their place by making products that matter since 1970.  The Tom’s of Maine Made to Matter collection is exclusive to Target.

What’s in the Made to Matter collection?

  • Luminous White Toothpaste:  A new toothpaste from Tom’s of Maine that provides clinically proven natural whitening and is gentle on enamel.  Luminous White is made of biodegradable and mineral-derived ingredients plus water. It contains no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Thumbs up from me!

  • Wicked Cool! Deodorant:  This is Tom of Maine’s first kids deodorant with 24 hour odor protection.  I’m thrilled they have a kids deodorant and love their kids toothpaste, especially the strawberry.   The deodorant is free of aluminum, parabens, and artificial fragrances. (My teenage boys can certainly use this and I got one for each of them!)
  • North Woods Men’s Antiperspirant:  The brand’s new men’s eco-friendly antiperspirant offers 48-hour odor protection and a promise to keep guys dry and smelling fresh.  It’s also made with sustainably sourced aluminum (recycled) so it leaves a smaller carbon footprint.  It’s also non-irritating and is free of petrochemicals and artificial fragrances.

Why I support Tom’s of Maine

Tom’s of Maine shares every ingredient used in all their products on their website.      Not only do they list them out, there are detailed explanations about the ingredients, how they are sourced, where there may be confusion amongst the public, and safety.  While many companies provide a long list of ingredients, it’s up to you to research what they are and sometimes that’s not easy.  Tom’s of Maine is completely transparent with what goes into their products and why.  They share the information on their website in a format that is easy for consumers to access and understand.

Tom’s of Maine also has a solid stewardship model.   Products are natural, sustainable, and responsible.  What does that mean to us, as consumers?  Everyone may interpret that differently.  To ensure no misunderstandings, the company makes their standards very clear.  A wealth of information is available on their website that defines their natural, sustainable, and responsible standards.

Do you want to make a difference on Earth Day?

Tom’s of Maine and Target have made that easy for you to do.   You can begin making a difference by using products in your personal life that are guaranteed to be effective with ingredients that are natural and sustainably sourced.  Why not give something different a try?  I’ve purchased Tom’s of Maine for years because the products are better for my family and better for our environment.

I’m all about a bright white smile so I picked up their newest product from the Made to Matter Target collection, Luminous White Toothpaste.  And as far as my teenage boys go, well, see for yourself…. I’ve got them set up with Wicked Cool! 24 hour odor protection from Tom’s!

Switching up products used in your personal care routine is a great start to improving our environment.  What else can you think of?  What else do you plan to change this year as Earth Day approaches and reminds us of the importance of our precious resources and the Earth we live on?  I would love to hear all about your creative ideas for Earth Day!  How about planting an herb garden or going on a hike?  These are some additional things we plan to do.  What do you think?

    1. Maybe you can find someone that will ship there. When the company was purchased by Colgate, their distribution channels broadened. It’s a really nice product line and when I researched the company, I found that many people were there in the early days when the company started, are still there today. It’s always nice to see that.

  1. Great post! My son is very sensitive so I’m always looking for personal products for him that are safe and natural. I will definitely be checking out this brand!!!
