Curél® reached out to 40 bloggers – myself included! – this year to find out what annoys them during the winter months. Can you take a guess? It’s dry winter skin! And actually, it’s been declared a nuisance all year round. The largest group affected by dry skin lived on the East coast but those living in the Mid-West, South, and West coast also reported in with dry skin issues.
The majority of people have tried between ten and fifty products to solve the on-going problem with dry skin and some have tried more! If you think you’re alone you’re not. Take a look at the results of Curél’s survey: itchy, flaky, and embarrassing dry skin plagues everyone! It is especially bad during the winter months because heaters deplete indoor air of moisture, humidity is low, and outdoor air is cold and windy. Despite the fact that 80% of the people spoken to shared that they use a body moisturizer in their morning routine, dry winter skin remains to be a concern.
Tips For Dry Winter Skin Care
- Use Curél® Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer

To help retain moisture, the best time to apply a moisturizer is immediately after a shower when your skin is wet, and then gently pat yourself dry. It may feel a little weird at first to put moisturizer on wet skin but this tip is the key to moisturized skin. Trust me on this one. Curél® Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer contains ceramides which are naturally present in healthy skin. Ceramides are a type of oily wax that forms a barrier on skin that helps prevent the loss of moisture. As ceramides are lost due to age and environmental factors, skin becomes dry and damaged. Read more about how ceramides affect your skin.

Traditional lotions usually hydrate the surface of your skin. Curél® Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer with Advanced Ceramide Complex strengthens the skin’s moisture retaining ability. The Curél® products do not just relieve itching and visible dryness but actually prevent symptoms from recurring as the skin barrier is repaired and strengthened over time. Daily use can make a significant difference in how your skin looks and feels.
- Warm Baths and Showers

Nothing feels better when it’s cold and windy outside than a long, hot, and steamy shower! Not to mention that hot water seems to provide some relief when skin is itchy. It’s not actually helping though. A hot shower will cause your skin to become more dry and damaged. Taking shorter baths and showers with warm water will help your body retain its natural, skin-protecting oils. Mild and gentle soaps without fragrance are best to avoid skin irritation. I love a sweet smelling strawberry soap but during times that your skin is sensitive and dry, to help it heal, unscented mild soap is the best and only use it on areas you really need to.
While you are in the shower, take a second to exfoliate. Using a gentle exfoliating product, several times a week, helps to remove old skin cells. Why would this make a difference? Because removing the dead surface skin cells prepares your skin to better absorb moisturizers, and adding the Curél Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer before toweling off really helps to seal in that moisture!
- Use Sunscreen
When the sun is not blazing overhead, sunscreen is still a critical part of maintaining healthy skin. Not to mention, using sunscreen all year round is one of the best weapons for anti-aging. Consider how your skin can burn in the water. On a cloudy day, snow can reflect the sun’s rays back onto your skin more effectively than water. The lovely tropical scent of many sunscreens is a misnomer that they are for sunny, hot, tropical days. Sunscreen is just as important to use in the winter months to protect your skin. You should use a product that protects against UVA and UVB rays. Whether you feel the sun is damaging your skin or not, it’s guaranteed it is if you aren’t using sunscreen.
With these changes in your skin care routine, you should notice softer and smoother skin.
I gave my father a bottle of Curél® Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer last year and he has used the product every day since I gave it to him. He’s on his fourth bottle now! He would tell you it’s the best moisturizer he’s ever used. He tells me every third or fourth time I see him! It is also the product I use every night after my youngest son gets out of the bath. It has drastically reduced the need to use prescription creams to soothe eczema out breaks. For me, if I’m itching, it’s not because my skin is dry; It’s because a bug bit more or some other cause. I keep a bottle of this moisturizer in my shower and I use it every day! I’ve found my skin to be noticeably softer, more hydrated and overall, much healthier looking. Have you tried Curél® Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer yet?

I know! Isn’t it amazing? Silky soft skin!
I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older my skin has changed. I’ve also noticed it changes with the seasons and with some medications. My skin gets very dry in the winter, so dry my heels crack. I’ll be looking for this on my next visit to the store.
My skin has definitely changed with age and it’s even different through out the course of a month. I keep this in my shower and it goes on so well when skin is wet.

I get super dry and cracked skin especially on my hands, they get so sore.
I just tried the Curel Hydra Therapy 2 weeks ago and I luv it! I’ve tried several different kinds of moisturizers this winter for dry skin but nothing was working and then I found this it’s amazing, what a difference its made and I’ve only been using it for a few weeks. So happy I found it as well.
It’s really good! I know! I love it too! Do you keep yours in the shower? That’s how I use mine. I turn the shower off, sit down (LOL), and while I’m completely wet, I apply it everywhere. I wait a minute or two, then I grab my towel and pat dry and my skin is super silky! Do you use when you are completely wet from the shower or right after you dry off?

My hands get real bad in the winter if I don’t take the time and moisturize them daily. Most of the time I lotion up before bed and that seems to work, but when they get really dry to the point of bleeding I have to apply a few times a day.
This lotion from Curel you can keep in the shower. Lotion up while you are wet and pat dry. You won’t forget and you’ll have great results. Kind of strange at first but you’ll immediately see the difference!

I unfortunately suffer from dry, winter skin! I get rough, dry patches on my arms and legs.. it feels so gross! I hate it! I like using Curel because it truly makes my skin feel soft and gets rid of those rough patches. I’m glad I live in a kind of southern state because it’s starting to warm up already!
That’s wonderful that it’s helping you! My dad experiences the same issues and Curel helps him. It’s literally his favorite product of all time since I introduced it to him.
I literally live and breathe Curel. I live in the desert and that took a toll on my skin. Made it absolutely dry and I honestly have no arm hair at all. It’s full of redness around the pores nowadays.. but, Curel actually helps it keep hydrated and moisturized. I use it after I take showers. It makes my arms “breathable” basically. Its hard explain, but the longer you use Curel.. you’d see results especially in skin-affected weathers. I havent used the Curél® Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer but I definitely will! Thanks for the tips, Janine! <3
