Hello holiday beauties! I hope you are all enjoying Christmas time and this amazing holiday season. I’m so excited to be off work for the next week. I thought I would do “The Christmas Tag” and hopefully inspire more of you to do it as well! It’s always so much fun to hear about everyone’s traditions and favorites especially in other areas of the world. I saw Katie from Plus Beauty do this tag and she didn’t tag anyone but she inspired me to do it. Thank you Katie! She is always an inspiration. If you aren’t following Katie and haven’t checked out her blog, stop in! She’s an amazing blogger and a total sweetheart with a huge heart.
OK. So, on to the Christmas Tag questions! (OK, LOL – No judging – I think I’m weird but you may already know that)
1. What is your favorite Christmas film?
I’m not a big fan of modern Christmas films. There’s only so much time to watch television and I’m always looking back at the classics. The shows I watched as a little girl are still the same today. I remember waiting for these specials to come on television every year. Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Peanuts Christmas Specials, and my very favorite The Year Without Santa Claus (because I’m secretly in love with the Heat Miser)! Every now and then someone is out there is sporting his amazing hairstyle and I know they are secretly fans too!
2. Have you ever had a white Christmas?
No, I grew up in southern California and now I live in Phoenix, Arizona. There’s no snow where I come from! I’ve never been away from home during the holidays. I grew up with constant sunshine, beaches, and palm trees. Now, I’m in the beautiful and unique Sonoran Desert. If the weather drops below 45 degrees, I can barely function. Snow would completely take me out of commission. I really love being in the desert and I find true beauty in so many things having spent 10 years here.
3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
I have always spent Christmas at home. When we lived in California, it was always at my parents house. After I moved to Arizona, my immediate family also moved. Now we spend the holidays together between my parents home and my home. I usually host a formal dinner and I love cooking and presenting something beautiful for my family and my friends are always welcome too. I enjoy opening my home to people.
4. What is your favorite Christmas song?
I love Christmas songs but I really enjoy the ones that are sung by modern artists. Sarah McLachlan singing a Christmas song might make me pull over in my car to listen to her. I’ve loved to hear some of the most talented modern artists do classic Christmas songs. I guess I enjoy hearing the songs done a little differently. Listen to this video and Sarah’s angelic voice. She’s simply perfection.
5. Do you open any Christmas presents on Christmas Eve?
Opening gifts on Christmas Eve was never a tradition in my home. To this day, it’s just not something that we do. Not to say the kids don’t want to! I think there’s more anticipation if you have to until Christmas morning for everything! So, we wait!
6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
OF COURSE! Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Donner, Cupid, Comet, and Blitzen! (I kept Katie’s reindeer image but I didn’t peek when I named them)! Of course, Rudolph leads the sleigh!
7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
I’m not so sure we have many traditions these days in my home. In California, we used to drive through a special area that was decorated called Candy Cane Lane. The neighborhood is in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles and they have decorated several streets in the area for over 30 years. My husband said our holiday tradition is me decorating the tree and getting pissed. (It’s true I get pissed when I’m doing the lights). I actually collect ornaments from everywhere I travel so there a lot of memories when we put up the tree. I also love to get Honey Baked Ham this time of year! Most of all, it’s a favorite time to just time relax and be ourselves and be together since we are all at home. Here’s Noah and I cuddling this afternoon with one of our kitties!
8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
This is a serious question. My tree is ALWAYS real and it just has to be. When I was a little girl, my parents would threaten to get a fake tree if I wasn’t well behaved. That was a serious threat. So, a fake tree (for me) is a subconscious punishment. Despite how difficult it is to haul a tree home and take it out of the house after the holidays, I have never had a fake one. Not only do we get real ones, we get big ones! Living in Arizona, we have 11 foot ceilings and that tree is going to the top!
9. What is your favorite all-time holiday food/sweet treat?
My grandmother used to buy See’s Candy by the case to give away during the holidays so I always associate See’s with Christmas and I love See’s Candy! For home made treats, I’d have to say Chex Party Mix (RECIPE HERE) It’s so yummy and addicting. If you have never made it, give it a try. We leave the nuts out and add Cheerios. It’s fantastic!
10. Be honest: Do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
I really do love giving gifts. As a young girl, I just wanted to get gifts! Now, I spend a lot of time planning what gifts to get for everyone and I really enjoy giving gifts. I enjoy getting gifts from my husband the most though. It’s always special when he goes and picks something out for me. (Even though I give him a giant list)!
11. What is the best Christmas gift you have ever received?
Hmmmm. I think there’s two. The first one is a pair of diamond earrings that my husband picked out for me. The second one is a bedding set that I wanted really bad and my husband wouldn’t agree to it. He went out and bought the entire set and gave it to me for Christmas. It was a huge surprise!
12. What would be your dream place be to visit for the holiday season?
I’ve never traveled during the holidays but if I was going to go on a vacation, I’d have to say Paris. It’s one of my favorite cities in the entire world. If I couldn’t go as far as Paris, I’d go to Guadalajara! Paris is really special. We spent out honeymoon there and it’s just a place I love to be. I hope we can have an apartment there one day when we retire.
13. Are you a pro-present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I can do a gorgeous wrap but by the time I’m getting down to wrapping there is so much for the kids and so little time, I do an average job. About one in ten get a pretty sad looking bow. Now, my dad can wrap a gift that looks like a designer did it! He can do really gorgeous stuff and his gifts are all elaborate and they match under the tree. It’s puts me to shame!
14. Most memorable holiday moment?
I can’t think of a major moment. A few years ago, I gave my husband a Bengal kitten and that was a pretty special and memorable moment when my son came down the stairs with her. She is positively exquisite and she’s very glittery and looks like a leopard. My husband is an animal lover (like me) so I was excited to present Jade to him.
15. What made you realize the truth about Santa?
I’ll never admit that a part of me doesn’t believe!
16. Do you make any New Year’s Resolutions?
Nope. I go to bed at 10PM and I don’t think anything of it. I know, I’m a real party pooper. Maybe I will make some resolutions this year to do things differently around health and eating.
17. What makes the holidays special for you?
Being with my family, enjoying big dinners together around the table, giving gifts, time to relax, the beautiful scents and all the lights. So many things I love about the holidays. I enjoy participating in charity events organized by my office and just taking the time to be nice and courteous to everyone I come in contact with!
I hope you enjoyed reading a little about my holidays and getting to know me better. Did you notice, I’m posting more no makeup selfies here and on Instagram? Big deal for me! I trust by now that no one is judging me. I am not going to tag anyone in particular to do this post but I hope you do it and let me know so I’m sure not to miss it! I would love to read your answers!
Thank you for reading and happy holidays to my followers who mean more to me than you can imagine!
