If your hair is feeling dry and lacking vibrancy, you might need to give it a boost to add some moisture and strengthen weakened strands. Â This simple all natural DIY hair mask is a great way of nourishing your hair without any chemical or harmful ingredients. Â And it’s good enough to eat!
To protect my hair and skin’s natural moisture, I only use the best organic shampoos and conditioners.  Once in a while, I use this hair mask to protect my hair from styling and environmental damage. Â
This DIY hair mask is full of beneficial nutrients your hair will simply love:
Avocado
Avocado contains a high amount of protein, which is the principal component your hair is made of. Â It can help strengthen hair and protect it against heat damage, dry weather and styling products.
Avocado also supplies a variety of minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that can penetrate hair cuticles to hydrate your strands and lock in natural moisture. Â Using avocado in a hair mask can also help unclog hair follicles and repair damage on your scalp, which can stimulate new hair growth.
Banana
You might find the idea of putting banana in your hair a little strange, but they are full of potassium, natural oils, and vitamins which can soften hair and add extra shine.
Bananas can help condition your hair and scalp, improve elasticity and reduce split ends by nourishing strands from root to tip.  It is also a gentle way of getting rid of dead skin cells on your scalp.  This can improve your skin’s health and reduce issues with hair loss.
Coconut Milk
Coconut milk smells wonderful, and is packed with Vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, protein, iron and magnesium. All these nutrients act as a deep conditioner, and help restore hair that feels dry and brittle.
It can also act as a scalp tonic, as it helps soothe dry, itchy or irritated skin, and combats the fungus which is one of the main causes of dandruff. It is easily absorbed and is one of the best ways to infuse your hair with lauric acid, which helps add moisture and shine. Â Â
Coconut Oil
One of the best ways to achieve lush hair which is healthy, manageable and shiny is by applying coconut oil. It penetrates the hair shaft and nourishes with vitamins, minerals, and medium chain fatty acids.
Coconut oil also helps strengthen hair, and stimulates new hair growth which is longer and thicker. Lots of people use it to tame flyaways and control frizz, and it is a natural detangler which improves the overall health of your hair. Â Also, coconut oil has properties that may help with hair loss. Â You can find more information here about a study that proves the benefits of coconut oil for hair loss. .
Olive Oil
Hair which is prone to breakages, split ends and often feels frizzy can benefit from a touch of olive oil. It has smoothing properties and protects the natural keratin in your hair to seal in moisture.
Olive oil can soften hair to make it more pliable and manageable, which makes it much easier to comb through and style. It also helps boost your natural shine by smoothing the outer layers of each hair follicle.
DIY Hair Mask Ingredients:
- 1/2 Avocado
- 1/2 Banana
- 50 ml Coconut Milk
- 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
DIY Hair Mask Recipe:
1. Â Mix all the ingredients in a blender until you achieve a smooth paste. Â The smoother the paste is, the easier it will be to wash out later.
2. Â Apply it throughout your hair, and gently massage into your scalp for a few minutes. Â To gain healthy hair you also need to look after your scalp, so you want your skin to absorb as many nutrients as possible.
Tip:  As this process can be a bit messy, I like applying it while I’m in the bath, and then relax for a while so the mask can do it’s thing.  If you don’t have a lot of time on your hands, you can use a shower cap to avoid any dripping and get on with other things. Â
3.  Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes, making sure the mixture doesn’t completely dry.
4. Â Wash your hair with a gentle, preferably organic shampoo, and rinse out thoroughly. Â If you can feel any bits in your hair, just shampoo again to make sure your hair is clean. Â Your hair should already feel easier to manage, but you can condition as usual if you like.
When your hair is dry, it should feel smoother, and look shiny and healthy.

Let me know how you like it! XO
I was reading the ingredients and all I could think was, yummy! I hardly ever make my own hair and face masks since I usually end up eating the ingredients, but I thought this was a pretty easy recipe. Thank you for sharing!
P.S. I also hate hearing people swallow, or making any type of eating noises! Lol.

Hearing my husband swallow makes me CRAZY. OMG! HA! I sat next to a guy who slurped his can of ginger ale once on an airplane and I honestly thought I was going smack him in the face! The worst! Home made hair masks are great. Also, try Black Cumin Oil – it’s amazing for hair! xxox
