My Spring Makeup For Work – Get Ready With Me

Makeup for work

It’s so hard not to get carried away with makeup getting ready for work but if you work in an office like I do, there is an unspoken rule about wearing too much.  I love getting ready in the morning because I plan what I’m going to wear the night before and I think about what colors I’m going to use in my makeup application to compliment my outfit. It’s an ordeal but something I have fun with and look forward to doing every day.

There have been a few days where I admit, I might have gotten a bit carried away with a very dramatic cat eye and big lashes. For the most part, I try to stay within the confines of what most of my office colleagues would deem acceptable. I am a Director of Technology in a financial services organization so that introduces conservativeness right out of the gate. This doesn’t mean no false lashes or bright lipsticks. I try to focus on the overall look so if I’m going to use a bright lipstick, I have to make other adjustments to compensate for that. On Friday, I had my hubby take a couple of quick snapshots before I left so that I could share how I got this look for work (excuse the tank top as I wasn’t fully dressed yet). You’ll be surprised at how much makeup I used!

I listed the products in the order that I used them.  If there is a specific product you would like me for me to review, let me know in the comments and I would LOVE to do that for you.

Spring Makeup Face Prep

Spring Eye Makeup

  • Primer (all over lid to brow bone):  MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette (NotavailableatABH, check eBay)
    • Transition color above crease: Warm Taupe
    • Crease definition: Caramel
    • All over lid:  Glisten
    • Beneath brow line: Nude mixed with Vanilla (Also applied a little in the corners)
    • Outer-V to darken: Sienna
  • Liner: Maybelline Eye Studio gel in Expresso (Soft wing and used in waterline and undereye and smoked out)  This also works great with an angled brush to refine brows. Messed up a wing and had to do some major tweaks and repair. Not uncommon for me  🙁
  • Mascara:  Loreal Voluminous Butterfly 872 applied to top and bottom
  • Lashes:  Red Cherry #43 (of course)!  Can’t leave the house without lashes (Duo lash glue)
  • Brows: Au Natural (hidden by my hair, on purpose)

Spring Lips

  • Lips:  Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense #30
  • Gloss: Christian Dior Addict Whisper Beige (Opaque gloss which significantly alters tone of lipstick)
  • Liner (None, I was lazy)
  • I couldn’t seem to get lighting right here – this is actually showing as a bit coral but the real color is seen in the other two photos.  And not sure why my lip doesn’t look straight!  It’s not cooked but looks like it in our photos.  =(

Finishing Touches

As you can see, I did use a lot of products but that’s just me.  I like playing with my products and I do go light with applications, especially during the day.  I don’t spent a lot of time on my hair and I’ll do a post about that.  Keeping it healthy is most important but despite having long hair, I can whip up a hair style in 15 minutes.  It’s the makeup that drains my time in the morning.  As you can see, I use a mix of high end, mid, and drug store products.  I’m not a product snob and if Maybelline liner works the best, I’ll use it and tell you!  And by the way, I do think the Maybelline gel liners are some of the best available.

I hope you enjoyed!  Please send me questions, comments, suggestions, tips, etc!  I love hearing from you.  I read absolutely everything as you might know by now.  So, I’ll be back soon with a review of my Lorac Unzipped Palette!  Happy Mother’s Day!!

  1. Hi I hope that U wouldn’t mind that a….. part time Cross dresser looks at your blog from time to time ? by the way,,, you really look *Pretty & I do love the way u apply your makeup….I just started,,, to,,,try to lol wear makeup I am sort of having a hard time with my eyes the most. I looked like a raccoon my first time,,, I have NEVER did any of this before in my life…so…it sure is a learning curve & my whole point for me doin this (cross dressing) is to look like a *REAL-WOMAN IN (PUBLIC) if & when the time comes for me 2b brave enough lol so…I am still what’s called a Closet C-dresser okay well,,, I should S.T.O.P. writing lol sorry 🙁 im goin to browse around your blog/posts thank you so much for your blog,,, my Fem name is Kelly*

    1. Kelly….I have absolutely no issue with that at all. I am a very open, accepting person and actually I just recently subscribed to your blog! I firmly believe people need to do what makes them happy and I’m happy when people can do that I can support it. Everyone has their own views on this sort of thing and I respect people and their different views and opinions as well. I follow MannyMUA on YouTube and I love Wayne Goss. It’s just not something that bothers me. You are always welcome here and if one of my followers is upset, I think the ladies that engage on my blog are kind-hearted beautiful women who would just overlook it if for some reason they had an issue.

  2. I love that you have such flawless skin. I wish I could make my skin like that…but I am very sensitive to all products so am afraid to try anything :(….all my wrinkles will be visible soon lol.

    1. What are you talking about? Your skin is flawless. You know what you could try playing with? Maybe some Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder. You could just dust that on and I doubt it would bother your skin and it would give you a soft glow.

    1. Thank you lovely! I would be happy to check out your blog and subscribe. If you are subscribed to mine, it should let you pull a post from yours when you post a comment and put it underneath. See how Zovesta’s deoes that? It’s really cool and it’s supposed to let you pick from your last 10… but I don’t know if it’s working right. I’m waiting for an update! =)

  3. You look lovely! I’m so weirded out by your 100% flawless skin, wth. Looks downright photoshopped, you sure you don’t have a full crew of lighting professionals and cameramen following you around? =P Just kidding, it looks great, though!

    1. My hubby took the photos with an off camera flash and a real nice Canon lens. He has nice equipment and has been studying lighting. All he did was soften them just by reducing clarity when he converted them to JPEGs because our Canon seriously over sharpens images. It will see things the naked eye can’t – scary – like a freakin microscope. I try to take really good care of my skin as I’ll be 45 in a couple of months. I’m trying to just keep from falling apart! Thank you so much for the lovely compliments! Kisses!!!!!!!

      1. Aah, lovely idea on the reducing clarity bit.. I feel ya 100%, my camera loves to make grains so I constantly look like a golem constructed out of sandpaper. Jeez!! 45? You look half your age for sure. =O Excellent job taking care of yourself!

  4. Love it! It’s amazing how much our makeup routine is similar! I would have done almost all same steps! 🙂 Not to mention that we work in high technology workplace during the day…and moonlight as beauty “gurus” at night ;)…
I love that you wear lashes at work…I never dared ..yet! Maybe I’ll try one of these days! 😉

    1. Where I work now, they have never seen me without lashes, so it would be weird if I didn’t wear them. But when I started to, I just started out subtle and then I built up to longer ones. How long does it take you to get ready? I’m a good 2 hours. =( I need to work on that big time.
