Smoothies have been around since blenders have been invented. Of course, they are still popular because of they are downright delicious and healthy. The Paleo craze resulted in the evolution of the traditional smoothie and many unique types of juices. One of the most popular smoothie variations is the smoothie bowl. You’ve probably seen beautiful presentations of these bowls all over Instagram! But there aren’t typically recipes included with them. Fortunately, the process to create a smoothie bowl remains as simple as the traditional smoothie and now you have a recipe!
Unlike typical smoothies, you can ditch the straw and grab a spoon to consume a smoothie bowl. It’s the best way to enjoy this delicacy. A smoothie bowl can be more satisfying than a traditional smoothie. Have you ever experienced that sensation when you don’t feel the smoothie was enough to satisfy you? Of course, you can’t suck almonds and fresh fruit through a straw so the traditional smoothies are more limited. Let’s start building a bowl with some extras and you’ll see and taste the difference.
Paleo Strawberry Smoothie Bowl Recipe
Strawberries are my personal preference so let’s start with those. I simply love them and you can find them all year in most grocery stores! My parents used to surprise me with strawberries after they got back from our little farm. Now that I am all grown up, this fruit is still my favorite! This is a versatile recipe and you can mix in whatever fruits you like.
- Frozen strawberries (1 1/2 cup)
- Frozen banana (1 piece)
- Coconut milk (1 unsweetened; 1/2 cup)
- Fresh bananas (sliced)
- Dried strawberries
- Fresh strawberries (sliced)
- Chia seeds
- Sliced almonds
- In a blender, combine the frozen strawberries, frozen banana, and coconut milk. Make sure you blend the ingredients until they become a thick, smooth puree.
You can add a little water or milk if you want to thin out the texture of the smoothie Just ensure that you don’t add too much liquid. Some people enjoy adding a bit of Greek Yogurt to the mixture as well. The sky is the limit once you get the hang of this.
- Once the base puree is prepared, add the remaining fruit and pour the mixture into a bowl. Sprinkle fresh strawberries, dried strawberries, fresh bananas, chia seeds, and almonds on top. Add anything you like! It’s common to see photos of frozen berries on top and that’s also a great addition. You can see in the photo, I also added a bit of shredded coconut.
I love the addition of chia seeds because they add nutritional content to the smoothie bowl. If you prefer to skip them or hold the extra calories, that’s absolutely fine! However, the nutrients provided by the seeds is a wonderful addition for those following a Paleo diet. They also add a delightful crunch!
Nuts also make great additions to smoothie bowls. Many stores sell nuts and seeds in bulk so you can easily pick up a variety of different things to try without purchasing large amounts.
