Johnson & Johnson charity campaign

For years, I stood on the side lines and admired people who volunteered their time  participating in charities and raising awareness for causes.  Until I took action,  I never experienced the level of compassion that comes with giving to those in need.  There is an extraordinary connection to humanity experienced that is difficult to describe.  It’s a humbling yet empowering feeling when you make a choice to help others.  The holidays are upon us and the spirit of giving is in full force.  It’s the time of year that those in need have hope.  As individuals, we have the ability to make wishes come true.  Even the smallest things we choose to do, can make a big difference in the lives of others.

I will share some very personal things and let you into my heart.  In exchange for doing that, I want you to read this entire post.  Don’t skim.  I thank you, genuinely, in advance for reading this and supporting me.

Spread love Save The ChildrenI realized the importance of donating blood after my husband was in an accident, underwent major surgery, and was given blood.  Now, I donate blood.  As a mother of thriving children, I realized the importance of helping other children.  I volunteered my time at a school for homeless children.  I brought holiday gifts donated by co-workers.  The gratitude and smiles from the children were overwhelming as they received a pair of socks or a sweatshirt.  My kids wish for games to play on their computers.  Other children wish for socks and don’t receive them.  Last but not least, for the past three years, I’ve supported the United Way.  I work with local businesses to donate products for annual corporate fundraisers.  For me, the difficult part in doing these things was coming to terms with how unfortunate many people are, including infants and children.

It’s easy to take our cozy beds and meals for granted.   We don’t think about what exists outside our beautiful bubble.  It’s emotionally difficult to do that.  However, as you read this, some people wish they could read.  People are suffering from illness and cannot get the medical care they need.  Babies don’t get their diapers changed because some families can’t afford them.  Communities, both domestic and abroad, have experienced disasters and don’t have the essentials needed to survive, such as drinking water.  I’m not trying to be depressing but I believe everyone can connect to some cause in their own personal way.  Just as I did when I gave blood or volunteered at the school.  Personal experiences led me to do those things.  I want to ask you to think about causes and charities that are important to you this holiday season.
