What is Matrixyl 3000?
If there’s clinical evidence a product can help reduce the signs of aging and it’s getting a lot of hype, you bet I’m going to try it! That brings me to the highly acclaimed Matrixyl 3000 which is made up of the peptides Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Paolitoyl Tetrapeptide. I know, that’s sounds very scientific. The bottom line is, in combination these two peptides promote the production of collagen and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. You may have heard of Matrixyl which was manufactured earlier by the same company (Sederma, a French company) but it is entirely different. It only shares the Matrixyl name.
In a clinical study by Sederma, Matrixyl 3000 participants showed a 20% reduction in wrinkle depth, a 23% percent reduction in wrinkle quantity, and a 33% reduction in wrinkle intensity. If you read reviews on Matrixyl 3000 the one draw back repeatedly pointed out about the product is cost. It’s been on the market for several years and continues to receive a lot of hype in the media.
There is not much clinical data available on Matrixyl 3000 and the number of volunteers in the Sederma study was somewhere around 50. I believe there were 2 groups of about 25 people. There is far more research and data out there about it’s predecessor, Matrixyl. In 2013, researchers at the University of Reading found Matrixyl almost doubled the amount of protein collagen needed to give skin its elasticity. That’s a profound finding and the test results for Matrixyl 3000 compared findings to Matrixyl. it is believed the new combination of peptides is even more effective in promoting collaging production. You can read more about the University of Reading research done in 2013 here.
Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Serum with Matrixyl 3000
No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Serum has been re-engineered by Boots. It is one of their most popular anti aging products. Protect and Perfect Advanced contains Matrixyl 3000 Plus™. This is explained on the Boots website as Matrixyl 3000 combined with a next generation peptide. Boots independently tested their product. Results revealed 80% of the women who used the product said it was the best anti aging results they had ever seen. (Whoa! OK, that’s huge!) Boots also shares with consumers that after 2 weeks skin looks younger. By 4 weeks, deep lines and wrinkles are visibly reduced. It’s recommended to use the product in the morning and at night.
What I can’t tell you about Boots No7 is the dosage of Matrixyl 3000 that you are getting. The manufacturer recommends a range of 3% – 8% of Matrixyl 3000 in products. The ingredient list in the Protect and Perfect Intense Serum is below. You can see it contains a lot of beneficial ingredients in addition to the patented antioxidant complex containing Matrixyl 3000. However, whether it contains a high or low dosage of the flagship ingredient is not known. I’ll reach out to them and see if I can find out for us.

What are users saying about No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Serum?
The product has gotten rave reviews in the U.K. and is a best seller. In the U.S., Protect and Perfect Intense Serum is also getting very positive feedback. The overall rating on Ulta.com is 4.6 stars out of 5. On Amazon, 75% of the users rated the product with 5-stars and another 9% rated the product with 4-stars. Once enough people use any product, I always see some poor reviews. Every product is simply not going to work for everyone or meet their expectations. Plus, we don’t know the state of a person’s skin when they began using a product or what other habits or things about their lifestyle may affect their skin. I always look to see if at least 75-80% of the users speak highly of a product. In this case, the 80% mark has definitely been exceeded. A majority of the users are loving the product.
Should you try it?
So, is it worth a try? Yes. Absolutely! There’s nothing to lose. Will it work miracles for you? I don’t know. I wish I could answer that question for everyone because I’d be a millionaire if I could!
A fair amount of reviews indicate extremely successful results but remember, everyone’s routine and situation is different. You have to gauge for yourself. I have a highly complex skin routine and I test a lot of products. At certain intervals, I change things in my routine to test them. What I can tell you is I have been using the No7 Protect and Perfect Serum for just over 2 weeks and my skin is quite smooth. I believe the lines in my forehead have also softened. It’s hard for me to gauge products that minimize fine lines because I can’t differentiate the results I get from botox versus the products. However, I don’t use botox in the middle of my forehead and I do notice a difference there.
The serum is more a light cream (which is nice). It’s not liquified like you might expect with a serum. It is absorbed very quickly and I have been using it twice a day. I absolutely love how quickly it absorbs and it doesn’t flake or ball off like some products do.
A good value
At less than $30 USD, it’s my opinion that the product is a great value. I’d suggest you try it out especially if you are concerned about fine lines. If you are cautious about the retailer you purchase it from, you can always return it if you don’t like it. However, give it a few weeks to work before making any decisions. At about 2 weeks, I noticed a difference without changing other products in my routine.
Have you tried this serum from No7? What type of results have you seen from it? Maybe you have a suggestion on another product in this line to try? So far, I’ve been impressed with Boots and I’d love to hear your opinion too! Leave me a comment below.
