Blog Tour Award

blog tour

Hello beauties!  I was nominated for The Blog Tour Award by Kristyn at The Life of Kristyn.  If you aren’t following her, give my link a click and in a few seconds you will be! It’s magical!   She’s adorable and sweet and has tons of great content.  Thank you for nominating me Kristyn!  There’s nothing more flattering than knowing someone remembered me and thought of including me for an award post!  It’s meaningful to me and that’s why I turn them around quickly.  I have another one I will work on tomorrow!  Here are the rules for this award and my responses.

-Pass the tour on up to four other bloggers.

-Give your nominees the rules and a specific Monday to post.

-Answer the four questions about your creative process which lets other bloggers and visitors know what inspires you to do what you do.

1. Why do I write or create what I do?

During the course of my life, I’ve always been involved in some activity where writing was involved.  I enjoy writing and typically my real voice and personality comes out in what I write. It’s always been a way that I’ve been able to truly express myself.   I like to write about cosmetics and skincare because that’s what I am passionate about.  I’ve always been a girly girl.  I look for swatches, photos, reviews, etc when I’m thinking about buying a product or just got something new.  I look for inspiration and ideas on how to use it but I always try to make it my own.  I believe I have  something to offer within the blogging community and I wanted to share my ideas and collaborate with others.  I also wanted to provide information that would help people make the right choice for themselves when selecting products.  I don’t have any other hobbies, besides cooking, so I decided to start my blog.  Even with cooking, my kids just want to eat chicken nuggets and pizza.  What’s the point in making grilled salmon if no one will touch it and I have to listen to the fact that they don’t like the way it smells for the next three hours?

2.  How does my writing/creative process work?

I have to be in the mood to write.  Usually, I am unless something is distracting me like a clogged toilet or a pet vomiting in the other room.  These things happen often in my house and irritate me so I usually find myself writing at night when I can think out loud and distractions are minimized.   Sometimes, I will just sit down and talk my way right through an article as if I was conversing with someone.   I also have moments where little floods of memories or imagery comes to mind that I know I will want to incorporate when I sit down to write something.  In those cases, I will scribble notes on a piece of paper or type them into my phone so I can refer back later.  It’s kind of like writing down a dream.  If I don’t capture those thoughts in the moment, I may not be able to remember or articulate them the same way later.

I used to be great with photography but I didn’t pursue it once I was out of high school.  I’ve forgotten the basics.  I still have artistic vision when it comes to what I want to see and how I want to see it.  Achieving that is difficult because my husband has to interpret that vision and he’s not an artist or a professional photographer.  Sometimes he nails it and sometimes he doesn’t.   The worst part is when a photo session isn’t working out and he just packs it all in while I’m sitting there with my makeup on or my products all laid out.   It’s a real party in my house when the photos don’t work out and he gets frustrated over it.  At that moment, I just tuck my tail between my legs and go away.  There’s no point in trying to save the situation, once he’s pissed, it’s over.

3.  How does my work differ from others in my genre?

This is an interesting question.  I’ll answer it two ways.  First, I was going to distinguish myself as a 40+ blog.  However, when I compared my blog to blogs in that category, it really wasn’t aligned with blogs being created by women in their mid-40s.  Yet, the reality is I am 44 years old.  My styles of dress, makeup, and persona have not quite caught up yet and I do make a profound investment in maintaining a youthful look.  So, I decided targeting that market was not a good fit for me.

I’d have to say the second thing is just my style that sets me apart.  Everyone has a different style of writing.  I’m flexible as I often have to write business proposals and executive material at work but who I am at work and home is very different as is my style of writing.  I feel my readers should get a sense of who I really am as a person through my writing and a glimpse into real life.  There are too many bloggers that are presenting a fantasy life with a perfect marriage, pets that don’t pee on their carpet, perfect vacations, perfect kids, they never sweat, they have tea on the patio every morning, etc.  What a bunch of bullshit.  I’m not blogging to pretend I’m someone that I’m not but rather to share who I am.   I will insert random thoughts and perhaps something irrelevant happening in the background while I’m writing.  That’s what it would be like if we were having a face to face conversation.  I want you to feel like you know me and I’m sitting beside you chatting.  Every post might not be that way, but you would know after a while, what I’m really like and what to expect if you met me.

4.  What are you working on at the moment?

Lots of stuff!  I’m currently testing various makeup products from 2B Colours and a review will get posted next weekend.  They have some cute stuff at a good price point.  I’ve also got a new Lorac eye shadow palette to swatch for you.  I’ve been saving it and  haven’t opened it yet.  I also have a pretty makeup tutorial using all MAC products and their new extra dimension shadows.   I’m working to finalize my June giveaway and I need to photo and post my weekend manicure.   Whew!  I just gave myself some anxiety.  Oh, one other huge thing.  On my personal blog, I’ll be writing about an exchange student coming from France to stay with us during July.  I’m going to post about that and I’ll be looking for some advice on what would be exciting to see and do coming to the US for the first time.  We won’t be traveling too far from Phoenix but what is different in the US that makes people in other countries curious?.

If you want me to cover a specific topic or write about something, please tell me!  I love getting requests!  Now for my nominees and their deadline to post is Monday, June 8th.

  3. Thank you for the nomination! I really enjoyed reading your answers. I’m not going to be able to meet the June 8th deadline (we’ll be in Paris!!), but I will do the post (I’ve written it in my notebook) and I’ll link back to you!

      1. Hi, yes! Paris is an amazing city!! This trip was waaaay too short for my liking! Any way, I’ve been busy getting caught up post trip, and am getting ready to post some photos. Hope you’re doing well. XO

  4. Instead of getting in the shower and heading to the office; I am sitting here glued to the computer screen. I love your style of writing because I can relate. Writing in a business setting is so boring and robotic. Coming home and working on something with a true voice and emotion is so refreshing. I feel entertained and engaged when reading your posts. It is what I aspire to evoke with mine at some point! <3 Everything

    1. It makes me to happy to get this feedback! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! I would totally go and treat myself to some M&Ms right now but I was in the restroom and I couldn’t determine if it was the lighting or my arm was getting a little bit fat. So, I’ll just skip the M&Ms and enjoy my diet coke! Ahhhh you made me smile!
