Quick Fix For Dry Curly Hair

Aussie Hair care best products for curly hair

With my curly hair, it has to be super moisturized to wear it naturally and have it look good.  When I let it air day or use a diffuser, either I’m not happy with how it looks or frustrated at the expense of hair care products to get it looking healthy. These days, I’m on a serious budget.  Orthodontists (yes, that’s plural), eyeglasses, mobile phones, growing boys, and all the other things I must spend money on while raising a large family really adds up.  As far as time goes, I never seem to have enough of that.  Every day ends before I get half the things done that I had planned.  Spending over an hour blowing out my hair and then curling it with an iron is not practical.  The alternative is wearing it curly.  Quite a dilemma since my hair usually looks like I stuck my finger in a light socket when I let it dry natural and curly.  I’m always on the look out for the best products for curly hair.

Since 1979, Aussie has had a huge following.  It all started when they released the 3 Minute Miracle.  The product was such a hit, the company took off and their hair care line kept growing over the years.  They have won Best in Beauty Awards from Allure and have produced products that are used by women all over the world.  Actually, it’s not just women anymore.  Aussie has comprehensive product lines for women, men, and kids that include various shampoos, conditioners, gels, sprays, and all sorts of styling products.  So, why I have not tried them?  I don’t know!  Not only is it an affordable hair care line, it’s very comprehensive and readily available on Amazon.  For over 35 years, Aussie has been getting rave reviews from their customers.  I want to find out how their products perform on my curly and frizzy hair.  I’m hoping there might be a time-saving opportunity for me and these are products I can add to my list of the best products for curly hair.

My hair care wish list

It’s pretty simple.  I want to be able to wash my hair and allow it to air dry or use a diffuser to dry it quickly.  Once it’s dry, I want to walk out the door and look good!  Maybe, I’d add a few more defined curls around my face with an iron but I only want to spend 10 minutes running an iron through my hair to add definition.  My biggest challenge is eliminating the frizz and getting the ends to look smooth.   I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on products to accomplish this!  Occasionally, when I have more time, I do want a sleek blow-out.  However, during the work week, I definitely don’t have time for that.  So, let’s take look at the Aussie products that I’ve had an opportunity to try and I’ll share my thoughts with you.

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment, 8 Fluid Ounce

best products for curly hair

This was the product I tried first because … well, let’s face it, I’m desperate.   I used the last of some existing shampoo I had and then applied the 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment.  This product makes hair 10x stronger against damage vs. non-conditioning shampoo and it helps to repair existing damage.

My thoughts on Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment

Definitely 5 stars!   I can always tell when I apply a product if it’s going to work for me because it will instantly smooth my hair and detangle it in the shower.  This did just that.  I could run my fingers through my hair immediately.  I gave the treatment a full 3 minutes and rinsed it out.  Afterwards, I easily combed through my hair and it felt moist and well conditioned.  I scrunched up my hair to bring in the natural curl and allowed it to air dry.  It dried with nice definition and my curls were smooth.  I definitely noticed a difference  using this product.  I’ll keep using it as it strengthens the hair over time.  My first impression is the 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment makes my list for the best products for curly hair.

Aussie Moist Shampoo, 13.5 Fluid Ounce

After a successful use with the  3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment, I introduced the Aussie Moist Shampoo into my regimen.  This shampoo, like the 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment, helps to strengthen the hair and moisturize it.  The product has a wonderful fresh floral fruity scent but it’s not overwhelming.  The shampoo created a nice light lather and rinsed out easily without leaving any soapy residue behind.

Aussie Moist Conditioner, 13.5 Fluid Ounce

I paired the Aussie Moist Shampoo with the Aussie Moist Conditioner.  This conditioner is formulated to maximize hydration (exactly what I need in the dry Phoenix desert) and leave hair silky.  The scent was the same as the shampoo and immediately left my hair feeling silky and soft in the shower.

Aussie Mega Moist

Experimenting with curly hair and the products

For an extra boost of moisture to ensure my curls would be locked in, I followed the Aussie Moist Shampoo and Conditioner with the 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment.   I don’t think this would be necessary on a daily basis once the hair is repaired over the course of the first week.  I wanted to introduce a lot of moisture because the air in Phoenix is dry and hair gets quickly dehydrated here whether you are indoors or outdoors.

After using the Aussie Moist products,  I scrunched my hair with my hands and allowed it to air dry.  Most of the time I was sitting outside and it was breezy so my hair dried relatively quick.  It didn’t look frizzy like it usually does.  I spent about 5-10 minutes adding definition to some curls  using an iron and I was done for the day!  My hair was full of volume since it dried naturally and the extra curls I added gave it a finished look.  While it looked like I spent more time styling my hair, I put forth very little time and effort with the styling.

On the next day, I used the  Aussie Moist Shampoo and Conditioner followed by the 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment.  The one change I introduced on this  day was the addition of a touch of hold to the ends of my hair using Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Hair Gel.  This is an ideal product for holding braids in place as well as top knots but I used it to add definition to my curly hair by applying the product on the ends.  It produced good  hold but was not sticky and created a more separated and defined look with my curls.

Aussie Total Miracle Collection 7N1 Shampoo, 12.1 Fluid Ounce

As I mentioned earlier, the Aussie product line has grown and there are many different formulas to choose from.  While I started with the Moist Shampoo and Conditioner, I also have the Total Miracle Collection 7N1 products.  The Total Miracle Collection 7N1 Shampoo smells similar to the other products I have tried but it is specifically designed to control frizz.  With this product, you get 7 benefits in 1 shampoo:  Strength against damage, silky softness, split end protection, nourishing moisture, humidity control, brilliant shine, and lasting softness.

Aussie Total Miracle Collection 7N1 Conditioner, 12.1 Fluid Ounce

To pair with the Aussie Total Miracle Collection 7N1 Shampoo there is also a conditioner.  It provides 7 benefits in 1 conditioner and leaves the hair feeling beautifully soft.

Aussie Total Miracle 7N1

The final products I tested were the Aussie Total Miracle Collection 7N1 Shampoo and Conditioner. I use these products with the 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment but when my hair dried, it felt the same as when I used the Moist product line.  I believe I would need a humid day to observe the benefits of this formula.  Humid days are rare in Phoenix with the exception of our monsoon season.  Regardless, my hair smelled fresh and clean and it felt soft.  The curls had a little weight to them which helped them appear more smooth and shiny.

  1. I will make sure to try something from Aussie next time I am in the States. My hair is quite curly/wavy too and after blow-drying it also looks like I got hit by 220 watts haha. I also can’t stand styling it every single day, so embracing the natural look is the way to go! Thanks for the post!

    1. Oh I HATE styling mine. It takes forever and I have extensions so it’s even worse. Just the thought of coming through it when I get out of the shower is a nightmare. Anything that untangles me is my friend. =)
