For those of you that have been following me for a while, you know that I am a true lash addict. I want long, dark black lashes and I want to know that I am using the best mascaras! Around this time last year, I issued a cry for help because I couldn’t find a mascara that would really WOW me. Everyone chimed in with their favorite mascaras and for the last year, I have tried every single mascara I could get my hands on.
Part of the reason I was disappointed with my lashes was because I damaged my natural lashes wearing false ones everyday. I have learned that it’s not a good idea to wear them on a daily basis. At least not in my experience! My natural lashes were pulled out or fell out when I removed the false ones each night. This led to short lashes that lacked volume. This is not a post about lash serums but I will tell you that I tried a lot of lash serums to grow lashes back and nothing worked except Latisse. When I started using Latisse, within 4 weeks, my lashes were so lush and long, I took a break from using the product. If you want to hear more about Latisse, comment below and I will do a separate post on my experience with that product. It’s absolutely miraculous!
The 5 best mascaras I used in 2016
Over the course of the year, once I grew fabulous lashes I tested more than 40 different mascaras. There are 5 that I can tell you are the best mascaras I used in 2016. I’m really excited to share these with you! Let’s jump in and talk about each of the products. These are the best mascaras in order of my favorites!
#1 – Le Metier de Beaute – Precision Lash Extreme Chat Noir $42
This mascara is a bit pricey but it really does a beautiful job. If you want lashes that look like you are wearing falsies, this product will do it. This mascara is smudge-proof and lasts all day. I’ve rubbed my eyes wearing this mascara and it still doesn’t smudge. It goes on without clumps and creates a defined lash that will hold a curl. You can apply multiple coats without it clumping. This mascara gives me the closest look to wearing a false lash. Lashes are full, very long, and hold a beautiful curl all day. This one is worth every penny and is personal favorite mascara.
#2 – Christian Dior – Diorshow $28.50
This has always been one of the best mascaras according to consumers but in 2015 Christian Dior reformulated the iconic Diorshow mascara. If you thought it was good before, it got even better. The new formula is enriched with microfibers which reproduce the effect of lash extensions. This mascara creates length and stays fresh in the tube due to patented technology used by Dior. The product doesn’t flake or smudge and goes on without clumps. You can see the product on the brush is creamy and smooth. This is a gorgeous mascara and usually what I recommend to people since Le Metier de Beaute is more costly. I use this mascara several times a week. The reformulated product is noticeably improved over the original so if you haven’t tried this, it’s definitely worth considering!
#3 – Benefit Cosmetics – Benefit They’re Real $24 (Also available in travel size, as shown $12)
This is the most affordable option of my favorites. I would not agree with the claims that state this mascara volumizes but it definitely lengthens and curls. This mascara does not clump or smudge but it creates a slightly different look than the other products mentioned in this post. The look is a more spiky lash. While it doesn’t clump, the formula creates a thick coating on the lashes that produces a spiky effect. If you like that look, this is a product you will love. According to Benefit Cosmetics, Benefit They’re Real mascara has been the #1 best selling prestige mascara in the U.S. for 3 years. I don’t know if this is necessarily because it’s the best. I think Le Metier De Beaute will create a far longer and lush lash, but it’s nearly half the cost. I would think with the travel size available and a good cost point, this product would sell more than others. It’s another great mascara and one of my favorites.
#4 – Givenchy – Noir Couture 4 in 1 Mascara $33
This multitasking mascara is formulated with an exclusive lash booster complex that helps revitalize, fortify, and protect lashes. It also provides nutrition to the lashes. It is designed to be used daily to reap the benefits of longer, even, and stronger lashes. I can’t speak to the clinical aspects of this product as I trade off mascaras daily but this is another product that goes on beautifully without any clumping and creates an elongated lash that holds a curl. It’s a light formula that creates a more wispy lash. According to Givenchy, 100% of users claimed stronger, shinier, more supple lashes after 8 weeks of daily use.
#5 – Marc Jacobs – Velvet Noir Magic Volume – $26
This Marc Jacobs mascara definitely creates volume and length! It’s one of the few mascaras that does more than just add length but that comes with a drawback. It can be clumpy. You can see on the brush the formula is thick and heavy. It has to be applied carefully and the product is very wet. If you blink before it’s dry, you’ll have a bit of a mess to clean up. At first, this was not a favorite of mine but after experimenting with it, I fell in love because of the volumizing effect. In can smudge under the eyes, especially on hot days, which is why it’s ranked the lowest of my favorites. However, it’s an amazing product that creates gorgeous volume for your lashes!
These are all products I purchased and I would repurchase. As I try additional formulas, I may have new favorites to share with you but for now, these are my top picks. What are the best mascaras you used in 2016? Do you have a favorite mascara that is not mentioned here? Definitely leave a comment so I know what to try next!
Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving next week!
